Poland scores Q1 growth

Of all the EU countries, only Cyprus recorded a higher economic growth than Poland in Q1.

Experts having warned against excessive optimism and forecasted that the situation will take a turn to the worse soon, are ready to change their prognosis. Several prominent bank analysts have announced that they are ready to change their prognosis and are predicting the growth of GDP for year 2009 to be close to zero in Poland.

The Central Statistical Office has reported that in the first three months of 2009, the economy grew by 0.8%, while on quarterly basis the figure stood at 0.4%. The reason is that the public is still spending a lot, but at the same time the investments deteriorated by 0.9% in relation to the last quarter of 2008.

Due to the drop in exports and imports, the Polish enterprises have limited their output by 1.4% in relation to Q4 2008. Cyprus recorded twice the Poland's growth level, and Greece with the third highest result was only 0.3% in the black. The rest of Europe is already dominated by recession.
